Here are four quick tips from Prayer Guide Lowell Snow:

  1. Include the whole congregation. When Jesus cleansed the temple and quoted that famous verse from Isaiah 56:7, he was standing in the Court of the Gentiles. Try to visualize Jesus standing on the back pew of your auditorium, cracking a whip and yelling, "My house shall be called a house of prayer!" You'll not find that picture in the foyer of any church, but perhaps it should be.
  2. Keep in mind that God's people want to pray. A Barna study determined that congregants, when asked to put worship components in order of importance, put prayer at the top of the list and music a distant fifth.
  3. Plan congregational prayer at the heart of worship. Plan your prayer time right in the middle of your song service, not as a bookend. The Old Testament temple reveals a God ordained formula for worship:
  4. Be a Prayer Guide. Like a fishing guide who takes folks to a place they are most likely to catch fish, then helps them do it - a prayer guide takes worshipers to the spiritual place where they are most likely to encounter God then helps them have a personal conversation with Him.
