The Day of Emmanuel! What a great time to pray.

Make prayer one of your family’s Christmas traditions. After you read the Christmas story to your family from the Bible (Luke 2:1-20); ‘Guide’ your family in prayer. Here’s a suggested prayer time. You’re welcome to use it as is or as a jump-start to do your own. [Note: Don’t read the instructions in brackets.]

A Christmas Prayer Time for your family:

Say, “I’d like to lead us in a brief time of prayer to thank God for the true meaning of Christmas. Would you bow your heads and close your eyes. [wait three seconds and visualize yourself in the throne room of heaven with your family gathered around you.]

“Dear Heavenly Father. We’ve come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. With the angels we say,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. [Luke 2:14 KJV]

"We praise you Father for Your eternal wisdom. To think that you knew the beautiful story we just read even before You created the world – well, it’s just amazing.

"We praise You for Your eternal mercy. It’s beyond our ability to understand that You would come into the evil of this world to die for our sins.

"We praise you for Your eternal power. You've replaced darkness with light, evil with good, and confusion with truth. You have changed us. You have placed Yourself within us and we will never go back to loneliness and emptyness of life without you.

“The Bible says:

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, [James 1:17 NKJV]

With your heads still bowed, I’d like you to pray silently now and thank God for at least one good thing. It could be something in creation, an experience, or even a person. Pray silently and thank God for something good. [wait 5 seconds]

“Is there anything in your life that’s not pleasing to God? It could be something you’ve said or done. It might even be an attitude. Pray silently and apologize to Him. Don’t make excuses or blame someone else. Apologize and ask His forgiveness. [wait 5 seconds]

“Continue to pray silently and thank God for coming to Earth to provide salvation for you. [wait 3 seconds]

“Thank God for someone who taught you the true meaning of Christmas. [wait 3 seconds]

“Pray for God’s blessing on missionaries that are far away from home telling people about Jesus. [wait 3 seconds]

“Pray silently for someone that’s sick or having a hard time this Christmas. [wait 5 seconds]

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. [Rom.15:13 NKJV]

“Now please pray out loud with me as we conclude with the Lord’s Prayer. [wait 1 second]

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. [Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)]

Sorry we're behind

We had a writing deadline and video shoot this fall that pre-empted the newsletters. I'll get back to the Hearing God series in January. We'll also have some pictures from the video shoot and tell you about the new Prayer for Spiritual Awakening conference.
